Many homemade hot bun recipes contain milk, eggs, and butter. This recipe is based on a special version of this baking, developed by the Vegetarian community, to exclude the ingredients listed above and still bake a batch of delicious buns that everyone will like. The recipe takes about 2.5-3 hours to make rolls, including the time it takes for the dough to rise.

Ingredients

  • 350 grams / 12 ounces wholemeal
  • 5 ml / 1 teaspoon chopped spice mix
  • 5 ml / 1 teaspoon chopped cinnamon
  • 5 ml / 1 teaspoon grated nutmeg
  • 1 sachet of yeast
  • 25 grams / 1 ounce sugar / icing sugar
  • 75 grams / 3 ounces of currant (can be replaced with different types of raisins, if you like juicy filling)
  • 25 grams / 1 ounce mixture of finely chopped zest (including candied citrus zest)
  • Finely grated zest of one lime
  • 75 grams / 3 ounces of vegan margarine, melted
  • 175 ml / 6 fl oz (approximately) of warmed soy milk

  • 50 grams / 2 ounces of flour
  • 25 grams of chilled vegan margarine
  • Water

  • 25 grams / 1 ounce sugar
  • 30 ml of water
